Our Curriculum

We trust that children are competent and confident learners, and so the curriculum is broken down into chunks that mean children experience challenges - not struggles.

We use your child’s interests to deliver those chunks, so they are always engaged in their learning. Every 6 weeks your child will be one of a small group of ‘focus children’. This means the curriculum and the delivery of that curriculum, is specifically based on your child’s next steps in learning and their interests.

Early Years Foundation Stages

All settings registered with Ofsted must follow the national Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). It sets the standards for the learning, care and development of children from birth to 5 years old if they attend a nursery or childminder setting.

The EYFS sets out 7 areas of learning that feed into the National Curriculum delivered in schools from Key Stage 1.

Areas of Learning

The areas of learning are; communication and language, personal, social and emotional development, physical development, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world (science, geography, culture and the environment) and expressive arts and design.

It sounds complicated, but when you know what you are doing (and the team at Amelia House do) it really isn’t. With the guidance of well-trained and passionate adults, by actively exploring, investigating, discovering, experimenting, questioning and just being plain old inquisitive, your child will experience all 7 areas of learning, every day! The hard thing is choosing which one to tell you about.

But don’t worry, once you have registered your child at Amelia House Nursery, we will tell you all about the EYFS and keep you up to date with how your child is learning and developing in each area. We also invite you in to experience the curriculum for yourself, and even send home some ideas as to how you can continue your child’s learning at home.

Register your interest and arrange a visit to find out more.
